Whitby is now a pleasant town with a sizeable harbour which attracts many tourists every year. 100 years ago, whaling brought considerable wealth to the town and before that, it was known for its ship-building - famously providing the colliers which took Capt. Cook to Australasia. The town has kept many traces of its past and photographing it with a Victorian lens (Petzval design) seemed entirely appropriate.
